Most of our companies are not efficient in production due to many factors such as; unstable power supply, frequent changes in policy, and so on and on.

Until I learned that over 80% of the products we use here in Nigeria were produced in China, I used to believe that everything from China was fraudulent based on our experience, but sincerely, with the recent arrival of Huawei, Techno, and the like, the story is not the same again.

Due to its favorable climate conditions and low labor costs, particularly for production, China has emerged as the world’s emerging economy. As a result, they can make goods at a lower cost.

Most manufacturing companies in the UK and USA have relocated to China to partake in this cheap production.

Terms Commonly Used In Importation

  • RMB: RMB (renminbi) is the official currency of the People’s Republic of China.
  • Procurement agents: They are responsible for buying products directly from the manufacturer in China or other countries.
  • Yuan: Yuan is the basic unit of the RMB (renminbi)
  • Logistics Company: Logistics companies help organizations plan, implement, and execute the movement and storage of products, materials, and services throughout the process. This might include transportation, shipping, warehousing, packaging, and security.
  • MQO: Minimum quantity order
  • Repurchase rate: Repurchase rate: This is the percentage of times an order is placed for a specific product within a specific time frame, typically calculated within 30/60/90/180/360 days of the initial order.
  • Pre-order group: A group of people coming together to place pre-orders in an effort to outbid MQO and secure a favorable deal from the manufacturer
  • WeChat: WeChat is a Chinese-language messaging app similar to WhatsApp that also features a translator and allows you to pay suppliers.
  • Alipay: Alipay e-wallet is an app that allows users to save their debit or credit card details to the app and then use their mobile phone to make payments, instead of cash or a bank card.

What You Need To Begin Your Mini Importation Business


Actually, all you actually need to launch a mini-importation firm are items you already possess or can easily obtain.

  1. Alibaba.com: is a B2B platform that caters for wholesalers. Products are cheap on the site but MQO is high.
  2. Aliexpress.com: Aliexpress.com is a global marketplace that, like Alibaba, enables users to purchase goods in smaller quantities from around the world. . You can even buy as low as just one piece of most of the items listed on the site

Things are more expensive on aliexpress.com than on Alibaba simply because it is a retail site.

  1. 1688.com
    The “bàbà” of them because things are very cheap on these sites and yet you can buy most of the items there in small quantities. Most mini importers prefer to buy from 1688 because of its low prices and low MQO.

The website was created with the Chinese market in mind, which explains why it is so inexpensive.

Make sure you install a Chrome browser on your phone. If you are using a computer, click right on any portion of the website and an option of translating to English, among others, will pop up. Click on “translate” to English.

Funny enough, all three listed websites belong to Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba.
